Former governor of Kogi State, Prince Abubakar Audu, has called on the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Attahiru Jega, to resign and leave the organisation in order to avoid collapse of the present democracy in the country.

The former governor made the call in Lokoja at the weekend, saying the way the Anambra State governorship election was conducted fell short of the expectation of Nigerians.

The All Progressives Congress, APC, chieftain in the state pointed out that the decision of the INEC to conduct supplementary election in Anambra State is unconstitutional, stressing that the electoral body has shown that it cannot conduct a free and fair election in the country.

“Professor Attahiru Jega has admitted that the election in Anambra State is fraught with irregularities. That alone is enough for him to cancel the entire result and proceed with a fresh election”, he said.

He said the stand of his party over the conduct of the said election is in order, just as he added that the move of his party to demonstrate to the INEC headquarters in each of the state in the country  is to drive home the fact that INEC is about to set the nation on fire for its inconsistency.

While the APC chieftain commended the courage of the group of five governors who defected to the party from PDP recently, he said the overall benefactors are the Nigerians, as the move will sustain democracy to flourish strongly in the country.
