As the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC continues the ongoing trial of former governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayo Fayose, counsel to the body, Adebisi Adeniyi, has alleged that some people are sending threats messages to their witnesses slated to give evidence in the alleged diversion of N850 million poultry farm projects.
Adeniyi told Justice Adamu Hobon of the Federal High Court, Ado-Ekiti at the resumed hearing yesterday that many of the witnesses the commission wishes to call were being threatened through telephone calls and being warned not to come to the court.
But counsel to the accused person, Ahmed Raji, SAN, disagreed with the EFCC counsel but described the allegation as a “blanket allegation intended to divide the minds of the public. Fayose is here and not threatening anybody.”
The judge however assured that the court was ready to subpoena any witness that refuse to come to testify and provide adequate security when the time comes. He noted that every citizen is duty bound to appear before a court when called upon to do so.
Meanwhile, the witness of the EFCC, Mr. Abubakar Madaki, continued his testimony against the former governor yesterday, he said among others that the accused person lied that he had N100m in an account he had a vested interest.
According to him, “The accused person claimed that he had N100m in an account with Bank PHB, my investigation revealed that the account belongs to the PDP and had less than N60, 000.”
