Professor Olusola Eleka, the PDP candidate in the Ekiti governorship election finally cast his ballot at 11.15 a.m following the intervention of National Commissioner of INEC, Professor Anthonia Taiye.
The INEC card reader had rejected Eleka’s PVC and his wife’s twice.
Following the intervention of the INEC national commissioner, Eleka was manually accredited and allowed to vote.
Eleka thanked the INEC commissioner for creating alternative means for him to cast his vote.
He appealed to the National Commissioner of INEC to ensure that all the card readers in Ikere Ekiti polling units are functioning properly.
Taiye, who supervised voting in the area had promptly assured Eleka, at a press briefing that he would cast his vote, after she was notified.
She said that some of the major reasons why the card reader often rejects the PVCs was because the owners often tamper with the sensitive part of the card and whenever it happens, the machine would reject the card.
” Card readers often reject card whenever the sensitive parts are tampered with.
” In the case of Prof. Olusola Eleka, I have contacted our ICT operators and the head office in Abuja and they are currently working on it and I want to him that he would vote before the vote ends,” she said.NAN)

The All Progressive Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has commended the electorate in Ekiti for their impressive turnout and conduct in Saturday’s governorship election in the state.
Fayemi made the commendation after casting his ballot in his Unit 009, Ogilolo Ward 11, Isan-Ekiti, Oye Local Government Area, at about 10.28 a.m.
But, his wife, Bisi, who accompanied him to the polling station, could not vote as the Card Reader could not accredit her.
Although the electoral officials found her name on the voter register, the card reader did not recognise her voter card.
Assessing the electoral process, however, Fayemi said, “This is the day the Lord has made and we are glad in it. I have just voted in my Unit.
“The voting process is relatively smooth; my card was recognized. I was accredited and I went to cast my ballot.
“You can see the turn out in my community, it is huge. This is not a big community, but almost everyone is out to cast his vote.
“They ensure that they conduct themselves in a proper manner and not being disenfranchised.”
He, however, said that reports he got from his representatives revealed that though the exercise was peaceful in most places, there were also reports of skirmishes in some places, and Card Reader issues.
“I have had reports across the state from my agents, from our leaders; we have skirmishes, Card Reader issues, but also there has been relative calm in most places.
“It is too early to judge now; it is too early to give a final and full verdict on how the process on the ground out there in state is.
“I will plead with you, the media, to allow me some time to get more reports from the field before I give you a definitive statement about the process,” he added.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that laege number of voters queued up to cast their ballots at the polling units in the ward.
The INEC voting list pasted in Unit 009 bore 345 names of eligible voters, including Fayemi and his wife. (NAN)

The Nigeria Broadcasting Commission has shut the Ekiti State Broadcasting Corporation because Governor Ayodele Fayose went on air to declare the PDP candidate as the winner of the governorship election that was held in the state on Saturday.
The INEC was still collating results of the election, awaiting electronic computation from the 16 council areas in the state to the INEC headquarters when the NBC ordered the closure.
The INEC headquarters was condoned off as results were being awaited.
However, no winner had emerged as of the time the governor reportedly made the announcement, and the broadcasting regulatory agency gave the order.

Whether you’re looking for an easy way to freshen your space or have an eye turned toward a major renovation. This upcoming year kitchen trend is for you.
To a great extent, white kitchens will always have some people who love them; however, the all-white kitchen is passé,” says Sara Chiarilli, an interior designer
Don’t despair: white is cool and classic! Just don’t overdo it. The next two paragraphs will show you how to use it effectively.
To mix up the monochromatic vibe, designers are introducing vibrant lacquers and bold countertops. Or, for a more distinct fresh touch, pair painted gray cabinets with large expanses of white countertops and walls.
“This will evoke the same clean, fresh aesthetic of a white kitchen—without actually using white cabinets,” Elisse Morgante says.
“Neutrals still have strong appeal with our clients, but we’re beginning to see more emphasis on color.” says Morgante. She also predicted blue will be hot this year, especially on kitchen islands.
Using different colors for your island and countertops, or choosing complementary shades to highlight the lower cabinets from the upper ones, helps your kitchen feels more integrated with the rest of your home by connecting the colour of the kitchen with the colours used in other parts of your home.
The stainless steel that’s long dominated kitchens is also expected to see some competition in 2018. As today’s homeowners lust after color and flair in their kitchen, they’re trading in their metallic appliances for ones in vibrant colors or unique designs.
In particular, vintage-inspired, European-style ranges—complete with metal-wrapped accents—will be big this year, Meadows-McAlpin predicts.
Balancing form with function is tough, especially in the high-traffic, well-used spaces like the kitchen. That’s why it’s necessary to get durable surfaces that require zero maintenance.
My clients “hate the idea of investing in something that will inevitably stain or requires constant sealing,” Germani says. “People are busy—they want their kitchens to keep up with everyday wear and tear without the hassle of maintenance.”
Try quartz surfacing such as Silestone which resembles the look of Calacatta marble (truly stunning) and Dekton, a stain- and heat-resistant surface which is the most durable option in the market.
According to the National Kitchen and Bath Association’s 2018 design trends report, a whopping 94% of respondents named quartz as the top surface trend for kitchens in the coming year.
“We’re seeing a shift toward simplistic, yet bold patterns that stand the test of time,” designer Stacy Garcia says.
These patterns will help improve the perception of kitchen spaces—they create a layer of contemporary sophistication.
A customised island that incorporates everything including the kitchen sink! This new kitchen design is a promising offer to the ultimate blend of style and function.
“Everything from bar seating and open shelving to dishwashers and wine refrigerators can be found tucked into a well-designed kitchen island,” Meadows-McAlpin notes.
Don’t forget to study your space carefully before committing to a does-it-all solution.
Ready to take the plunge? Don’t wait! Follow the trend with your kitchen and enjoy your space!

Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, and sister-in-law Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex attended the Wimbledon Ladies’ Single Final together on Saturday to cheer on the Meghan’s friend Serena Williams as she competed against Angelique Kerber.
The duchesses appeared in good spirits as they soaked up the sunshine on the twelve day of the tournament ahead of Serena Williams’ single final match.
The two laughed and chatted as they watched the match from the Royal Box. Kate wore a white and black polka-dot, ruffled midi Jenny Packham dress, nude heels and drop earrings. Meghan sported a blue and white striped Ralph Lauren shirt, wide-legged, high-waisted, white silk Ralph Lauren pants and a white Maison Michel Virginie Hat with a black trim.
Though Kate is still officially on maternity leave following the birth of her third child Prince Louis back in April, the dedicated tennis fan made an exception for her favourite sporting fixture. Even though the pair have previously attended events together with their respective husbands, Princes William and Harry, this marked the first time Kate and Meghan have attended an event together, just the two of them, since Meghan married Prince Harry in May.
Before Saturday’s match, Kate and Meghan met and chatted with ball boys and girls, wheelchair competitors and junior players.

…Says Results Are Being Concocted By APC and Security Agencies
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rejects in its entirety whatever outcome is being concocted by the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies, in the governorship election in Ekiti state.
The process, characterized by open alteration of results, brutalization of innocent citizens, barefaced cruelty and intimidation of our members by security agencies, is a brazen assault against democracy and a direct subversion of the will of the people which is completely unacceptable.
The PDP is armed with the details of all manipulations by the APC, who is being aided by security agencies and compromised INEC officials to rig the election, particularly, the audacious alteration and substitution of election results in favour of the APC at the collation centers amidst the brutalization of our agents.
The PDP also has details of all the polling units where we won, mostly with very wide margin ahead of the APC, only for the security agencies to aid the swapping and alteration of such results with those smuggled in by the APC at the collation centers.
It is instructive to state that all the issues we raised ahead of the election, including the conspiracy between the APC, some compromised INEC officials and security agencies; the importation of thugs from other states by the APC; the use of brutal force against our members and the alteration of results in favour of the APC, have all manifested.
The PDP holds strongly that there is no way our democracy can survive with an electoral process such as this, being witnessed today in Ekiti state under President Muhammadu Buhari and the current INEC.
This bald-faced subversion of the will of the people is a clear recipe for a serious crisis and we invite Nigerians and the international community to hold President Buhari and his APC as well as the INEC Chairman and heads of security agencies in Nigeria responsible for any breakdown of law and order in Ekiti state as a result of this election.
This on-going robbery of the franchise of Ekiti people is a horrible rape of our democracy and most uncharitable of President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC who hugely benefitted from the credible election midwifed by the PDP in 2015

Former Vice President and presidential aspirant for 2019 election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has berated the All Progressives Congress-led government for the disunity in the country saying that Nigerians have not been that divided than now under President Muhammad Buhari’s administration.
Abubarka who is aspiring to rule Nigeria under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party disclosed this over the weekend during his visit to Abia state where he met with PDP faithful at the party secretariat, Umuahia.
Former Vice President added that lack of unity among Nigerians under Buhari is not a good development for the country and a threat to democracy.
He further noted that the present administration has recorded the worst leadership in the country, hence the need to vote out the APC Federal government administration in 2019.
Waziri Adamawa further stressed that among other disturbing issue confronting Nigeria was the present state of unemployment which he said the ratio of unemployed youths stands at 11 million even when the Country has been rated the Poorest Country in the World.
On the issue of insecurity threatening the Country, Atiku noted with sadness that under APC led Federal government, that Nigeria is gradually turning into anarchy especially North East and recent attack in Sokoto State where over millions of Nigerians has been killed by suspected militia groups and Boko Haram Sects.
“I want to tell you that Buhari administration has proved incapable to govern this county as what is currently happening has not been witnessed in the County under previous administrations”.
Atiku decried the divisiveness and insecurity in Nigeria, as well as the worst economic decline in the history of the country, noting that it has become imperative to unite and come up with a leadership that will turn things around in the country.
Alhaji Abubakar reaffirmed his belief in restructuring as partway to unity in Nigeria.
Earlier in his speech during a Courtesy visit by the former Vice President at the Government House in Umuahia, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu said for Nigerians to make the right decisions they must look at where we are coming from and where we are going bearing in mind what the future holds.
He advocated for deep thinking and sober reflection if the right impact must be made in the country and called on Nigerians not to go to the polls in 2019 carelessly.
He said the pedigree of the former Vice President would come to the fore as the party decides her flag bearer and assured him of Abia’s identification and prayers for him while depending solely on God’s will.
The Governor added that the unity of Nigeria has become imperative for even and speedy development, while expressing hope that Nigeria will rise.
“I am hopeful that this Nigeria will rise, I am hopeful that this country will grow”, he noted.
Also, earlier, the former Governor of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel described the situation of the country as a rain and prayed the sun shines again on the nation.
He said Nigerians are disappointed with the present administration and called on Nigerians to look intelligently in order not to make further mistakes in the future.
The former Vice President was accompanied on the visit by the former Governor of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel and Okwesileze Nwodo, former Governor of old Enugu State and former National Chairman of PDP, and Senator Abdul Ningi among other eminent personalities on his entourage.
However, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar had earlier met with PDP State Chapter Executive members led by Chief Johnson Onuigbo on a closed door meeting as part of his campaign tour to the State.

President Trump’s highly anticipated meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin began on Monday, July 16, in Helsinki.
Both leaders made public remarks with translators before entering a private discussion-Trump repeatedly expressed optimism the talks would yield positive results.
Trump, bent on forging a personal bond with the Kremlin chief despite allegations of Russian meddling in US politics, went into the summit blaming “stupidity” by his predecessors for plunging ties to their present low.
Looking sombre, the two leaders exchanged a few opening remarks in front of the press at the start of their summit in Helsinki.
Putin, basking in congratulations from Trump and other world leaders for the successful staging of the World Cup in Russia, said: “The time has come to talk in a substantive way about our relations and problem areas of the world.”
Before the two leaders went into a first session between just themselves and their interpreters, Trump said the summit would cover “everything from trade to military to missiles to nuclear to China”.
“Frankly, we have not been getting along for the last number of years. And I really think the world wants to see us get along. We are the two great nuclear powers,” he said.
“I’ve not been here too long (as president), it’s getting close to two years, but we’ll be having an extraordinary relationship, I hope so.”
