At last the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission, BASIEC, has expressed its readiness to conduct local government elections in the state next year.

The revelation was made by the chairman of the commission, Alhaji Abdumumuni Kundak, in an interactive session with some stakeholders in Bauchi where he said the commission planned to create more polling units and wards in all the 20 LG of the state to ensure that all electorate exercised their rights, saying that already they have 40,074 polling units in the state and plans to create more while the 212 wards in the state would be increased to 324.

The former deputy speaker in the state assembly explained that the commission is making adequate arrangement to ensure free and fair LG election next year by giving fair treatment to all parties in the contest.

The chairman said the essence of organising the meeting is to educate stakeholders, political parties and local government caretaker committee chairmen on the preparation of the election, urging them to go back to their wards to mobilise and sensitise the electorate towards a peaceful election.

Kundak said after the launching of the voters registration that the commission would commence registration of voters, promising to announce the new date for the election in all the 20 local government councils.

It would be recalled that the last local government election was conducted by the Isa Yuguda-led administration in 2008 in Bauchi and since then sole administrators and Committee chairmen have been appointed to oversee the affairs of the LG councils in the state.
