Army gets new Director of Public Relations

New Director of Nigerian Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Olajide Laleye yesterday assumed duty at the Army Headquarters, Abuja, with a plead to the media to support the efforts of the military to secure peace in the country.

Brig-Gen Laleye, who made the appeal during the brief handing and taking over ceremony at the army headquarters, assured that the directorate would bring into sharp focus all the activities of the Nigerian Army.

He said the directorate would key into the vision of the Chief of Army Staff “to transform the Nigerian Army into a force better able to face contemporary challenges,” and appealed for media cooperation, just as he assured that there would be success at the end of the tunnel.

He replaced Brigadier General Ibrahim Attahiru who is now the Brigade Commander in Calabar.

Brigadier General Laleye hails from Lagos State. He was commissioned into the Nigerian Army on Sept. 23, 1989.

He holds a B.Sc in Physics from the Nigerian Defence Academy and Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

He also holds a Master’s Degree in Strategy, Defence and Disaster Management from the University of Yaounde.

Until his appointment, Laleye was the Commander, 1 Division Garrison, Kaduna.

Earlier, the outgoing Director of Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru had urged the media to see the army’s counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency efforts as a fight against a common enemy.

He said the media had a fundamental role to play in the fight against terrorism in the country.
