NMA committed to checking quacks –Chairman

Chairman Nigeria Medical Association, Aba Chapter, Dr Onwuchekwa  Nwokocha has said that the body is not resting on its oars to check quack is in the profession.

Nwokocha in an interview with newsmen in Aba he said that the body had been in court for about six months over a man who was found to be practising medicine including carrying out surgeries without medical training in Aba.

He said that NMA Aba chapter was committed to bringing sanity in the practice of medicine in Abia State and Aba in particular and therefore, called on the judiciary to give urgent attention to cases of that nature in order to save lives.

“Allowing a quack to practice, it is like throwing a pebble into the market, it could blind your mother or yourself because if you have an accident while travelling on the road, you do not take decision on where they will take you to.

“You may land in the home of a quack that uses you to practice medicine and your guess will be as good as mine as to the outcome,” he said.

Speaking further, Nwokocha called on Abia residents to verify the credentials of doctors in the Council’s medical registers to verify the in order not to become victims of quacks.

He said that the verification of the membership status of practicing medical doctors in the state would help save residentsfrom many quacks operating boldly without proper certification.
