Executive Secretary of Anti-Corruption Network, Dino Melaye, has commended President Goodluck Jonathan for sacking some ministers, even as he called on him to wield the big stick in the case of those indicted of corruption.
Melaye said although the president’s action was belated, “the Anti Corruption Network salutes his courage”.
“ACN accused the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godsday Orubebe, of corruption and abuse of office in 2012 and now we have been vindicated over the allegation,” he said.
“When the president sees a snake, he should kill it. He does not need to set up a committee to find out if it is a snake or a lizard. We celebrated the removal of these corrupt ministers,” he added.
He however called on Jonathan to immediately sack other corrupt officials still serving in the government.
Speaking on the disparity of figures between the suspended Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Lamido Sanusi and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, he said: “In any civilised society, there should not be a misinformation, whether the missing fund is one naira, one million or one billion, it is irrelevant.
“The most important thing is, government’s money has been misappropriated, stolen and tempered with. All we expect is that there should be prosecution.
“People should be referred to the anti-graft agencies. We call on the president to also wield the big stick and ensure that those indicted are prosecuted publicly.”
