Benue State government has engaged 8, 500 youths, including university graduates, under the state Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme, SURE-P.
Governor Gabriel Suswam while launching the programme in Makurdi yesterday said the exercise would be opportunity for youths to engage themselves in useful ventures.
The governor urged them to take the programme seriously as they stand the chance of taking over from the civil servants and hence have to understand the civil service procedure before they are fully engaged.
He said the government had acquired 50 18-seater Hiace bus and 50 taxis while order has been placed for the purchase of 20 trucks to help in the disposal of refuse.
Suswam threatened to deal with any government employee involved in the scheme, even as he urged those on the verge of retirement to involve themselves in useful ventures.
