The Zamfara Government on Tuesday distributed more than N20 million as assistance to victims of a recent attack in Tungar Rakumi Village of Maru Local Government Area.

The villagers were attacked three weeks ago by unknown gunmen, who killed 25 residents, burnt down houses and foodstuff and injured many others.

Alhaji Sani Mayanci, Chairman of the committee set up to distribute the money, said it was meant to serve as assistance to families of the victims.

He said the families of those who died would receive N300,000 each while others affected by the incident would be given N100,000 each.

Mayanci said three bags of assorted grains would also be given to each of the affected families.

He further said that the state government had provided 22 motorcycles to the victims whose motorcycles were snatched or burnt by the gunmen.

“We were sent by the state government to come and sympathise with you over the attack, we call on you to be patient and consider the ugly incident as an act of God,” he said.

Also speaking, the Executive Secretary, State Emergency Management Agency, Alhaji Atiku Maradun, pledged more assistance to the victims and the provision of effective security in the area.
