Sports Minister, Dr Tamuno Danagogo has said that the National Sports Commission, NSC and the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF will jointly workout a plan that would enable the Super Eagles do well at the summer FIFA World Cup holding in Brazil as everything would be done to avoid fire brigade approach or quick fix measure towards the team’s preparation and participation.
The new sports minister who was appointed Wednesday by President Goodluck Jonathan following the sack of Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi said on resumption on Thursday that he will liaise with the Nigeria Football Federation to ensure that the national team gets the best preparation.
‘’NSC and NFF as well as those managing the system in the sports commission will come up with a plan and see the workability of the plan. We want the team to do well at the world Cup and everything possible would be done to ensure that the players are highly motivated for the championship.
What we will not do is the fire brigade approach or quick fix- it measure. We are going to ensure timely intervention as regard preparation of our teams to international duties such as the World Cup.’’
The newly appointed Minister of Sports said his appointment few months to the World Cup in Brazil, would have no negative impact on the nation’s performance at the games.
However he lamented the situation were Sports Ministers’ performances in the office are judged by the country’s performance in football alone irrespective of their successes in the other sports, a situation which he said had unfortunately made some past ministers to concentrate and channel all their energies into football.
