Chief Executive Officer at Core Media Services, Jide Adediran has explained the reasons behind his company’s decision to float a digital television platform, Core TV on Startimes.
According to the young entrepreneur, the channel which operates on Startimes channel 329 is borne out of his desire to deliver incisive news reportage.
The broadcaster with vast experience in news reporting says that his background in broadcasting comes handy in the management of Core Media’s affairs.
According to him, “I have not done any other thing in my life aside broadcasting media. That is what I eat, sleep and live for, and it has always been a part of me. I understand this job very well and that is why I’m actually confident in what I do, because I have the necessary expertise and technical know-how. I have been a News man and I reported virtually all aspects of the economy ranging from entertainment, business, politics and what have you, so I understand what News is,” he enthused.
Adediran revealed that Core Media would be a break from the norm, as their style of operation is different from others already in existence.
He stated: “We monitor news as it breaks and we follow it to conclusion. Our reportage is unbiased with in-depth analysis of issues; we’ve got facilities to transmit live from anywhere in the country to our base station. We’re starting on a very humble note, but we’re going somewhere.”
Also speaking on the perceived conflict between online news and newspaper publications, Adediran said, “The good thing about the digitalisation of broadcasting in Nigeria is that by the time everybody moves into one box, it will be arranged in such a manner that viewers can then decide on what to watch because all the news oriented television programs will be on a stretch, so if a particular station is not giving you what you want, you can switch to another station. At that stage, you have to let your content and technical knowhow speak for you.”
Television broadcasting is presently dominated by some big players, how does Core Media aim to survive in the industry? “Not just to survive, but we stand a very good chance to give Nigerians a better alternative because we are coming out new, and they are yet to discover what we’re bringing. We have the latest equipment in town, which all the big players are still struggling with. If you step into our studio, you will see equipment that you can’t see in any other TV station in Nigeria.”
On the greatest challenge the company has faced, he says philosophically, “The greatest challenge I have is triumphing in an economy where hardship reigns. We’re constantly planning and working with generators which consume a lot of diesel; that’s where the bulk of money goes! The atmospheric condition of the economy is not sustainable, though it’s something we’re used to, and we’ll continue to hope things get better.”
