Traditional leaders in Ikot Abasi Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State have asked the Nigerian Navy to develop the plot of land given to it for barrack and secondary school.

The royal  fathers made their position known through the clan heads of Ikpa Nung Asan and Ikpa Ibekwe, Etebom Celestine Udia and Etebom Akpan Akpan Unio respectively, when the Commander of NNS, Jubilee Ikot Abasi, Commodore Joel Ogazi, paid them a visit.

The monarchs, who applauded the navy for ensuring the sustenance of peace in their communities, said they were happy with the prevailing peace since the force came there.

“Although there is relative peace in the area, the navy should develop the plot of land given to it by the communities, as soon as possible, to further help check some pockets of criminalities and youth restiveness,” they said.

They said the 100-hectre land had been left undeveloped for quite a long time, and would need to be developed so that the navy could be better mobilised to do its work in the area.

The royal fathers pledged readiness to support the security agency in the

sustenance of peace and harmony “as is presently witnessed”, which they said was better than the days before the navy’s arrival.

“The proposed barracks will not only bring government presence to the area, but will also bring development, through the proposed Navy Secondary School,” the monarchs said.
