Snubs Technical Committee for Tom Tom Brazil 2014 media launch in Lagos
Top officials of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, are angry with Super Eagles supremo, Stephen Keshi after he snubbed a scheduled meeting with Technical Committee and instead flew into Lagos for the Tom Tom Go To Brazil media launch in Lagos.
Keshi had been billed to attend the Technical Committee meeting which was fixed for noon yesterday to review the team’s 40-man list for the Brazil 2014 World Cup kicking off on June 12. However, by Monday evening, Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme who is the secretary of the committee sent out text messages to members announcing a postponement.
“Dear members, I’ve been informed by the head coach that due to flight problems, he won’t be able to arrive in the country and to attend the Technical Committee, TC meeting. Arising from this, the TC meeting will now take place on April 8, 2014 at the same venue and same time.”
After Keshi made an unexpected appearance at the Tom Tom event in Lagos yesterday, Nigerian Pilot gathered that members of the committee are livid with rage as it is the second time in two months Keshi will be refusing to make an appearance.
“We definitely will not fold our hands and watch Keshi take us for a ride. It is simply unacceptable that our senior national head coach will prefer to attend a corporate event while shunning a meeting with us which would have held on the same day,’’ roared a member of the committee in an interview with our correspondent yesterday.
Meanwhile, Super Eagles Chief Coach, Stephen Keshi has stated that he will decide whether to stay on as the national team manager after the World Cup in Brazil.
The former Super Eagles captain is believed to be a target of several teams in Africa with the South African FA reportedly eager to offer the Nigerian the Bafana Bafana job after the World Cup.
At the Tom Tom Go To Brazil media launch in Lagos on Tuesday, “The Big Boss” revealed that his first option would be to stay on as Super Eagles manager if the conditions are right. But the Nations Cup winning coach stated that he is focused on preparing the national team for the Fiesta in Brazil and he will make a decision on his future after the World Cup.
“Right now is not the time to start talking about my future as manager of the Super Eagles,” he said.
“We will concentrate on the World Cup and we will decide to remain with the team after the World Cup. If the conditions are right, we will like to stay on,” Keshi continued.
It would be recalled that Keshi resigned his position as the Chief Coach of the national team after helping the team secure its first Nations Cup trophy since 1994 siting interference and lack of support from the NFF as his reasons. However, the Delta state born tactician rescinded his decision to resign following appeals by Nigerians and intervention by President Goodluck Jonathan.
