Suspended Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Governor Lamido Sanusi, is expected to appear before the probing panel of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria, FRC today in Lagos.

Other CBN officials expected at the session are the apex bank’s Acting Governor Sarah Alade, former CBN Deputy Governor, Operations, Tunde Lemo and six others as well as the Managing Director and Chief Executive of the Bank of Industry, Ms Evelyn Oputu.

The FRC is investigating the activities of the CBN for the financial years ended December 31, 2011 and 2012.

Sanusi was suspended on February 20 by President Goodluck Jonathan for alleged financial recklessness.

Yesterday, the former and sitting Managing Director and Chief Executive of Access bank, Mr. Aigboje Aig-Imokuede and Herbert Wigwe, and the former Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the defunct Intercontinental Bank, Mr. Erastus Akingbola faced the committee at the hearing which was held behind closed doors.

The former Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Security, Printing and Minting Company, NSPMC, Mr. Ehi’ E Okoyomon, was absent.

Despite the heavy presence of armed security personnel at the FRC office located at the Elephant House in Alausa, Ikeja, supporters and old staff of the defunct Intercontinental Bank were on hand to cheer on the former Intercontinental bank chief, Erastus Akingbola.

The supporters who were singing his praised hailed him at his arrival and exit at the venue also took turns taking pictures with Akingbola.

He however declined to speak with journalists. Wigwe and Aig-Imokuede also declined commenting on what transpired behind the closed doors.

Also to appear before the FRC hearing panel on Wednesday and Thursday are CBN  Deputy Governor, Corporate Services, Alhaji Suleiman Barau; Mr. Babatunde Dayo; Mr. Gabriel Okpeh and Mr. Ezekiel Ejedele.

An official of the FRCN told journalists who were not allowed to enter the premises that those sighted within the compound were there for a “closed-door meeting.”
