Bayelsa state civil servants have been urged to always speak Ijaw language to their children at home, as well as show pride in the culture of the state, which has compelled them to wear traditional attires on Fridays.

Commissioner of Culture and Ijaw National Affairs, Dr Felix Tuodolo stated this during a surprise visit to the Ministry of Information and Orientation, on Friday at the state secretariat, Yenagoa.

Dr Tuodolo said that his visit was to see the level of compliance to the governor’s directive, and to find out those that are proud of Ijaw culture among civil servants so as to encourage them.

He frowned at the non-compliance of some staff in the ministry, noting that those who failed to comply will soon get their reward.

Earlier,  the Information Commissioner, Deacon Markson Fefegha, had advised the staff not to lose sight of their culture, noting that the governor has been emphatic about the culture of the Ijaw land, admonishing them not take it for granted.

“My ministry will not take last in the local parlance, so many of them are well dressed. Even my media teams are properly dressed.”

He thanked the commissioner for the initiative and resolution of the EXCO, noting that they should not only preach culture, but practice it, in other to make their children value their culture.

The high point of the visit was the decoration and presentation of Bayelsa signets and umbrellas to five best traditionally dressed staff of the ministry by the Commissioner.
