The Edo state government has said it was committed to the completion of the N30 billion water storm project aimed at dealing with the erosion related cases in parts of Benin, the state capital.

The state Commissioner for Environment, Mr Clem Agba said work on four, out of the 23 catchment areas of the project were in progress without the usual challenge of funds militating against project execution.

Agba spoke, Tuesday against the backdrop of insinuations that the multi billion naira project has been abandoned, explaining that work had been completed on first phase one, up to Upper Mission, adding that the second phase of the catchment was in progress while the bulk of work of the project lay within the Uwelu West and Uwelu East areas.

He explained that it would take about 25 years to implement the planned 23 catchment areas, depending on the availability of funds and weather conditions.

“We are working on four of the catchment areas and work on it has not stopped on these four catchment areas that is costing us N30 billion.

The problem is that, people want to see a project happening in the city centre where they drive pass every day”.
