Gov. Sullivan Chime of Enugu State has inaugurated the Police Reform Programme Implementation Committee, as part of measures to strengthen security in the state.
At the ceremony in Enugu on Friday, Chime explained that the move was in line with directives from the National Economic Council to improve, maintain and fund security agencies in the states.
The governor, who is Chairman of the committee, added that the council also directed each state to set aside one per cent of their federation allocation to funding police.
“Establishing this committee will ensure steady funding of the police in the state to maintain adequate security so that investors can come in’’, he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN reports that the AIG in charge of Zone 9 in Umuahia, Mr Bala Nasarawa, is the Vice Chairman of the committee.
The Commissioner of Police in Enugu state, Mr Adamu Mohammed, Secretary to the State Government, Mr Amechi Okolo and the Commissioner for Finance, Mr Godson Nnadi, are members of the committee. NAN
