The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has declared that, neither the party, Supervising Minister of Education, Barr Nyesom Wike, nor its State Chairman, Prince Felix Obuah, had any hand in the recent protest by the Omoku youths against the Chairman of Ogba/Egebma/Ndoni local government council, Mr Austin Ohiamadu.
A press statement by Jerry Needam, Special Adviser, Media to the State PDP Chairman said the allegation was spurious, malicious, and baseless, stressing that the Supervising Minister of Education, Chief Barr Nyesom Wike and the State PDP Chairman, Prince Obuah were too busy to have time for youth association’s politics.
The statement expressed regret that Mr. Ohiamadu lacked the composure and self respect to exercise control over the people he claimed to be their council chairman only to be looking for who to blame for his ineffectiveness.
PDP also recalled that it was the Governor Amaechi-led state government of which he was part, that lifted the ban on youths associations which led to the subsequent election of the youth association’s officials, wondering at what point the Supervising Minister of Education and the PDP state chairman came into the picture to warrant the council chairman’s vituperation and wild allegations.
Insisting that Mr. Austin Ahiamadu should apologize to the party, the Supervising Minister of Education, Barr Nyesom Wike and its chairman, Felix Obuah, PDP also took exceptions to the toga of thugs given to the Omoku youths by the council chairman for democratically exercising their right to protest against perceived injustice and maladministration by the Ohiamadu leadership in the area.
It would be recalled that for refusing to recognize their newly elected officers, the Omoku Youths Association took to the streets against the council chairman, Austin Ahiamadu who described the protesting youths as touts, and also accused the PDP of masterminding the protest.
