FEDERAL government has advocated for the full domestication of the Child Rights Act in the 36 states and the FCT through implementation of the law.

A statement issued by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Developmemnt said the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Habiba Lawal, made this call on Monday at the opening of the Technical Session of a Mid-Term Review Meeting of the 15th National Regular Council on Women Affairs and Social Development, holding in Abuja.

Lawal stated that the ministry would continue with its advocacy strategies in the remaining 14 states which were yet to domesticate the law for full implementation, but regretted that the current security challenge in the country was slowing down this process.

She, however, advised state ministries to design strategies to sensitize the tiers of government at the state level, towards the adoption and full implementation of the Child Rights Law in line with peculiarities of the people.

The stakeholders meeting lamented on the increasing reported cases of child rape and violence against children in the country, and called for zero tolerance to violence and rape against women, girls and minors, adding that full implementation of the child’s right is the only panacea to stop this act.

She emphasised on the need to build synergy between the three tiers of government, development partners and relevant stakeholders towards formulating and implementing policies and programmes that have positive impact on the lives of women, children, Persons with Disabilities, the Elderly and other vulnerable groups in the society.
