Israel has joined the international community to assist Nigeria find and rescue the abducted female students of Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State.
The Israeli government yesterday promised to send a team of counterterrorism experts to assist in the ongoing search and rescue operations.
Already, Britain, Canada, the United States of America, France and China, are working with the Federal Government to rescue the girls and end the menace of Boko Haram sect.
Israeli Prime Minister, Mr. Benjamin Netanyahu, made the offer in a telephone chat with President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday.
In his response, President Jonathan said he was optimistic that with the entire international community deploying its considerable military and intelligence-gathering skills and assets in support of Nigeria’s efforts to find and rescue the abducted Chibok girls, success would soon be achieved.
The President briefed Mr. Netanyahu on actions already taken by Nigeria’s armed forces and security agencies to locate and rescue the girls, saying that Nigeria would be pleased to have Israel’s globally-acknowledged anti-terrorism expertise deployed to support the current operations.
In a statement signed by presidential spokesman, Dr. Reuben Abati, Mr. Netanyahu expressed Israel’s condemnation of the mass abductions, saying that the team of experts from his country would soon arrive Nigeria. He said the team would collaborate with the contingents from US and Britain, who are already in the country.
He reaffirmed Israel’s willingness to give the government and people of Nigeria all the needed assistance to overcome terrorism and insecurity.
