The chairman Senate Committee on Works, Senator Ayogu Eze, has commended President Goodluck Jonathan for accepting the intervention of United States, Britain, France among other nations in the mission to secure the release of the abducted 234 students of Government Secondary School Chibok, Borno state by the Boko Haram insurgents.
Senator Eze who is currently attending a course on legislative oversight at Cambridge University, United Kingdom, threw his weight behind President Jonathan on the Chibok saga, in a press statement made available to the Nigerian Pilot in Enugu.
His words, “President Jonathan has demonstrated sufficient leadership and statesmanship by internationalizing the problem and convoking a global concert to battle the issue of terrorism in Nigeria”.
He stressed that the setting up of a fact finding committee to unravel the circumstances surrounding the abduction of the girls is a step in the right direction and urged all concerned to cooperate with the presidential committee to ensure an early and speedy resolution of the problem.
Speaking further, he urged Borno state government , Chibok Girls Secondary School authorities and security agencies in the area to cooperate with the federal government and the international community on how best to rescue the abducted girls without further delay.
He advised against playing politics and further apportioning of blames on anybody or government but the collective efforts of all and sundry in fighting the rising wave of insurgency in the country, to a standstill.
Eze stated that “what is needed now is for all hands to be on deck to confront the monster of terrorism in Nigeria head-on, once and for all. There are three tiers of government involved here – the federal, the state and the local government. Yet everybody is speaking as if only the president has a role to play here,
“We were told that Borno State government was told early enough to evacuate those girls ,to avoid any unforeseen circumstances. We we’re also told that they said they had enough security in place to protect the students. How come nobody is talking about this if we must indulge in blames? Why are we singling out just the president for blame?”, he asked.
He advised all concerned to stop trading blames and looking for scapegoats, and instead to channel all energies in facilitating the rescue of the girls, soonest.
Eze advised members of the international community to liaise with Nigerian embassies and high commissions across the world for authentic information about Nigeria.
The chairman senate committee on works pleaded with President Jonathan not to be distracted by the unwarranted campaign of calumny against him by a few vocal elites in our country, gunning for their selfish interest, stating that history will vindicate President Jonathan against his traducers.
