Contrary to media reports yesterday, President Goodluck Jonathan never made any plan to visit Chibok, Borno State, where over 200 girls were kidnapped by Boko Haram.
Presidential spokesman, Dr Reuben Abati, said this while writing on his twitter handle, Abati said: “Every trip by the President is usually pre-announced. The Presidency did not at any time announce a trip to Chibok today. Ignore rumours.
“The statement issued by my office yesterday indicated very clearly that the President is scheduled to travel to Paris today,” he said.
“It is therefore wrong and malicious to allege that a non-existent trip has been cancelled.”
This would contradict reports by the media, especially foreign ones, that presidency sources had disclosed that Jonathan planned to visit Chibok, before his trip to Paris yesterday.
According to the reports, the President’s advance team had already gone to Maiduguri ahead of his scheduled trip for yesterday.
While there was no official confirmation of the planned trip, reliable sources, the reports said, confirmed to journalists that the President would be in Chibok yesterday from where he would proceed to Paris, France for regional security summit summoned by Francois Hollande.
