President Goodluck Jonathan has argued that he doesn’t need to visit Chibok, Borno State where over 200 school girls were abducted about a month ago.

President said this against the backdrop of controversy over his aborted trip to the village on Friday.

The President had planned to storm the town on Friday before an unfavourable security report made him to cancel the trip at the last minute.

His spokesman, Dr. Reuben Abati however told the public on Friday that his boss never planned to visit the village.

The President who spoke in Paris, France yesterday during the regional summit on Boko Haram summoned by French president, Francois Hollande argued that suggestions that he must go to Chibok are misplaced since that will not bring the girls back home.

Responding to a question during the press conference to announce the conclusions of the meeting held at Elysee Palace, he noted that he was not against visiting bomb explosion scenes, as he had done so in the past, explaining however that the case of Chibok was different since there was nobody in the school.

He said the service chiefs had already visited the area, as he maintained that the emphasis was on the rescue of the girls abducted over a month ago.

“These girls are not held in Chibok. Some people want the President to go to Chibok. If the President goes to Chibok today, it does not solve any problem. The problem facing the President and indeed the Nigerian government is how to get these girls from wherever they are,” he said.

The President also assured that the Nigerian military forces were being trained to develop the capacity to adequately deal with the threat of terror, noting that there were challenges because terrorism was a relatively new phenomenon in Nigeria.

He also asserted that the allegation of misappropriation of funds by the military was exaggerated even though he conceded that administrative lapses might have a part to play in the inadequate funding of the war against terror.
