Ahead of the 2015 general elections, a foremost governorship contender in Imo State, Barr Humphery Anumudu, has warned the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state to avoiod acts capable of robbing the party victory again in next year’s polls.
Anumudu gave the warning while addressing members of the state executive of PDP at the state party secretariat, Owerri when he paid a courtesy call on the leadership of the party yesterday.
He observed that the party was in a precarious situation in the state and urged the leaders to tread cautiously to avoid a repeat of past mistakes that made the party to lose to mushroom political parties in 2007 and 2011 respectively.
He said, “Do not be carried away by sentiments, PDP has not won Imo governorship after Chief Achike Udenwa and it is important that the leadership of the party in Imo gets back to the drawing board so as to know what might have gone wrong.”
The guber hopeful from Owerri zone noted that the wrong choice of governorship candidates, coupled with the highhandedness of the leadership in the past virtually “made it impossible for the party to win elections after the tenure of Achike Udenwa as a Governor.”
Recalling how late Sen. Emeaka Echeruo, Chief Innocent D. Nwoga and himself among few others laboured to establish and stabilize PDP in Imo State at inception, Anumudu appealed to the state executive of the party to support his governorship ambition for 2015.
He explained that he deserved some level of consideration by the party, having sacrificed both his time and resources in the formation and upkeep of the party without getting anything in return over the years.
“This is the opportunity to redeem Imo PDP. There is apparent danger lurking Imo PDP in 2015 and they cannot afford to make mistakes. I am the best product of PDP for 2015 Governorship,” he declared.
Responding, PDP State chairman, Barr Nnamdi Anyaehie commended Chief Anumudu for the visit, describing him as a committed loyal party man, adding, “Anumudu is giant because he conducts himself very well.”

Further describing the aspirant as a gentleman par excellence with milk of human kindness, Chief Anyaehie assured that Imo PDP as presently constituted, will ensure free, fair and transparent party primary election in the state.
While seeking financial support of Chief Anumudu towards uplifting the party in the state, the state chairman urged him to pray fervently over the ambition, stating that power is given by God.
