I’m not contesting any political seat – Obi

The immediate past governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi, has debunked speculations in some quarters that he will vie for the senatorial seat of Anambra central district currently being occupied by Dr Chris Ngige of the All Progressives Congress, APC in next year’s general elections.
Obi who disclosed this to newsmen at Ochuche, Ogbaru local government area of Anambra state during the reception and conferment of the chieftaincy title of Ifeakachi (nothing is greater than God) on his former Commissioner, Dube Obaze, by the monarchs of Anambra North zone.
There have been speculations in political circles that the former governor had vowed to wrest Anambra Central senatorial district seat from his arch political rival, Chris Ngige, in the February 2015 polls. However, Mr Obi refuted such saying, “I’m not contesting any election. I’m resting.”
On the stories making the rounds that the federal government is considering him for appointment as a minister, Obi said he would be ready to serve the country in any capacity, but quipped “I’m not looking for job”.
Asked about the prospect of his party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, winning elections in next year’s polls, he said: “We’re prepared. We’ll get it right.”
The former governor described the conferment of the chieftaincy title on his former commissioner as well deserved.
Also, the Secretary to Anambra State Government, Oseloka Obaze, who is the head of the Obaze family, said the honour done to his younger brother was by extension, an honour done to the family, stressing that the family would not hesitate to nominate Dubem for more service to mankind in future.
The Anambra North monarchs led by the Obi of Onitsha had, during the conferment, said they chose to honour the ex-commissioner because of his demonstrable commitment in using his portfolio as the commissioner for local government and chieftaincy matters to transform rural communities in the state.
Chief Obaze said the recognition accorded him was a tonic that would ginger him to render more services to his people and humanity in general.
Former Senate President, Ken Nnamani, oil magnates – Emeka Offor and Ifeanyi Ubah were among the dignitaries who graced the occasion.
