EHOAN president calls for environmental health practice

State President , Environmental Health Officers Association of Nigeria, EHOAN, Delta state chapter, Sanitarian Mode Augustine Oritsemeyiwa has listed  prevention of environmental hazards, protection of human health and prevention of diseases among human population as the main trust of Environmental Health Practice in countries of the world.
Sanitarian Oritsemeyiwa, who stated this in Asaba yesterday at the maiden annual Environmental Health Lecture/Investiture and award ceremony said environmental health services as a key factor on public health was devoted to preventive health services by protecting and improving the health of human population by limiting their exposure to biological, chemical and physical hazards in their environment.
Mode added: “This goes to show that if we are actually ready to eradicate poliomyelitis or roll back malaria, environmental sanitation or environmental health services must be given the attention that it deserves.”
Mode outlined some major problems affecting the efficient Environmental Health Services Delivery in the state to include acute
shortage of manpower, poor funding, shortage of working materials,
inadequate sensitisation/mobilisation equipment amongst others,
expressing optimism the determined efforts by government to address
the problems, which will go a long way in ensuring a clean and healthy
environment.
In his keynote address, the state Attorney-General and Commissioner
for Justice, Mr. Charles Ajuyah, SAN, described the theme of the
lecture; “Environmental Health Regulations Enforcement: A panacea for
Effective Health Care Delivery” as apt as regards to the emerging
challenges being faced in rapid development, economically and
socially, not only as a state but as a country.
