Police rescue 34 abducted children in Delta

In the wake of missing Chibok girls and Boko Haram insurgencies,
police detectives in the Delta State Police Command, Asaba, have
rescued 34 abducted children and killed two of the suspects in the saga while three others were yet to be seen in Okunzu community, Issele-Uku axis, a few kilometers away from Asaba. The incident took place last Friday.
Sources said in the last few weeks in the community, there have been complaints by residents over alleged ritual activities including horrendous crimes by some unscrupulous persons and have called on the state government and security agents to come to their aid.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Celestina Kalu, said the children were rescued from the suspected kidnappers after they were picked from their homes into a pick-up van with registration number AA 136 XX, adding that on a tip-off, the detectives ambushed them
and upon interrogations three of the suspects escaped while two others were killed on the spot while the children were rescued unhurt.
Stressing that the police will do everything possible to make life unbearable for kidnappers, cultists, and hoodlums in the state, DSP Kalu disclosed that there was an earlier petition by some of the communities over alleged invasion by some ritualists.
It would be recalled that a month ago, police detectives uncovered a camp where a middle aged woman (name withheld) had been allegedly involved in the sale of children, including harboring pregnant women and whose babies the woman sale after their delivery.
But speaking further on the rescued children, the PPRO said the children had been reunited with their parents while search for the fleeing kidnapped suspects were ongoing.
A resident of the community who did not want her name mentioned in the print said: “we appeal to the security agents not to relent in their efforts in ensuring that they combed
every nook and cranny in the state to nip in the bud the activities of ritualists and kidnappers . We are afraid of the present situation, and we commend the police for swinging into action immediately to save the little children”.
