A few months after peace returned to Fulani invaded communities of Benue State, the residents of Daudu, Guma local government area of the state were in the early hours of yesterday attacked by over 20 unidentified gunmen who disguised in Military uniform.
Daudu community which is located about 16 kilometers away from Makurdi, the state capital along Lafia high way was mentioned as one of the villages earlier earmarked for attack during the Fulani invasion of communities in the state.
Although no life was lost in the attack, Nigerian Pilot gathered from a cross section of residents of the area that the gunmen who came in three hilux vans at about 2am broke into houses, subjecting them to severe beating, including women and children while they searched for arms.
One of the victims, a police officer, ASP Gabriel Akombo, who happens to be the officer in charge of Daudu Police station, confirmed the incident on phone saying, although he was not at home when the unfortunate incident took place, he came back and saw the door of his apartment and that of other residents in the area broken by the alleged gunmen who also ransacked the rooms.
Akombo said he has since lodged a report at the police divisional station in Gbajimba.
Another resident, Joseph Alaki, a student of the College of Education Katsina Ala, who was trying to repair his broken door told newsmen that apart from the severe beating he received from the gunmen, they demanded from him arms and the whereabouts of one Joseph Tsesambe whose picture they paraded.
Alaki narrated further that the gunmen who were over twenty, moved from house to house in search for arms and Mr. Tsesambe while still ordering the residents who came out of their houses to lie face down.
A 70 year old woman, Mama Sarah Apu told newsmen that the gunmen who were in their thirties showed no respect for her age and beat her up, appealing to security agencies in the state to investigate the attack.
However, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Daniel Ezeala, denied knowledge of the attack at the time of filing this report, saying he was yet to get such information.
