Director General, National Agency for Food and Drug Administration Control, NAFDAC Dr. Paul Orhii has commended the United Nations Office on Drug and Crime, UNODC for disseminating 2013 annual report of the International Narcotics Control Board, INCB and the World Drug report for the year 2014.
Orhii, who gave the commendation yesterday at NAFDAC office in Abuja, said that the report will help the agency and other stakeholders that contribute to their efforts in safeguarding public health.
He said that NAFDAC was fully committed to the success of the activities of UNODC, saying that in demonstrating this commitment, the agency hosted the launch of the INCB reports in 2012 and 2013.
According to him, “I am grateful to UNODC and relevant stakeholders for giving NAFDAC the opportunity to once again host the dissemination of the 2013 annual report of the INCB and the world drug report for the year 2014.
The NAFDAC boss said that the presentation of the reports will further strengthen regulatory authorities towards shared responsibilities in the effective implementation of the existing conventions on narcotics and psychotropic substances across the globe.
He maintained that the presentation of the reports will also provide opportunity for relevant stakeholders to acquaint themselves with updated lists of substances under international control.
“The report will proffer recommendations to governments across the globe and the United Nations Agencies towards strengthening collaborations in curbing the menace of drug abuse, misuse and trafficking” he said.
