Two middle- age men in possession of a dead body of a two year old girl whom they were trying to bury in an abandoned pit have been arrested by Abia State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Nigerian Pilot reports.
The men were apprehended at Enyimba filling station near Ariaria International Market in Osisioma area near Aba, while attempting to take the dead girl in a big sack to the pit for burial .
Speaking in Umuahia while parading the suspects, Abia State Commandant of the NSCDC, Andy Dateer said that it was a very sad day for his command, as his men on a routine parade caught two men in possession of a dead body of a girl of about two year old in a sack.
Dateer said that his men were attracted to the scene when the men started quarrelling with a man who was alleged to have brought them there in his car, adding “as people started gathering the owner of the car zoomed off and his men arrested the two suspects”.
He said that the suspects would be handed over to the police for proper investigation, stressing that he only succeeded in saving the suspects from being lynched by the public.
The commandant said that his men went to the Chinenye hospital where one of the suspects said the girl died and met a nurse who denied that the girl died there, “But later recanted that she died there and tried to bribe my men with the sum of N20, 000 which they refused”.
In an interview, one of the suspects who gave his name as Chibuike Anubuife and who hails from Ezeagu local government area of Enugu State said that he saw the other man for the first time and he asked him to help him bury the dead girl.
