Traffic gridlock: Commissioner urges residents to be patient

Plateau state Commissioner of Works, Chris Hassan, has urged Jos residents to exercise patience over the incessant gridlock following the on-going construction of the city’s township roads.
Hassan told newsmen in Jos yesterday that the critical aspects of the construction – bridges and culverts, have been completed and assured the residents that the problem would soon be over.
It would be recalled that there had been massive gridlock on the city’s roads following the rehabilitation work on the dual carriageway from Secretariat Junction to Maraban Jama’a in Barkin-Ladi Local Government.
He attributed the delay in the overhead bridge construction to the fact that the major pipeline conveying water to the city runs through that route, hence the need to rechanneled and relocate the facility.
The Commissioner explained that government was very determined not to leave any project uncompleted, and promised that the projects would be fully funded to ensure that there were no hitches in their execution.
Hassan said that the contractors had been warned against any unnecessary delay, saying that they had been advised to double up their effort toward a timely completion of the job.
