Clerics in Nigeria have been cautioned to be guided by the principles of Islam in their preaching and to shun comments that could incite people against one another with a view to ensuring better development in the country.
An Ilorin based Islamic scholar, Sheikh Sulaiman Dan-Bornu stated this while delivering the annual Ramadan lecture organised by Sheikh Mukhtar Isale Koto Islamic Foundation in conjunction with Al-Hikmat Islamic Outfit.
He also urged parents to take the training of their children more seriously to further enable Muslim Ummah have better future.
“Preachers should tailor their sermons towards correcting societal ills instead of attacking one another.
“Those who indulge in attacking fellow preachers lack the understanding of Islam,” even as he blamed loss of values in the society on parents’ abdication of responsibilities towards their children.
Dan-Bornu, however, advised parents to rise to the challenges of child upbringing and imbibe them with Islamic knowledge and moral education to live a righteous life.
Also, the former Chief Imam of University of Ilorin Central Mosque, Professor Abdulrasheed Raji said the craze for wealth has eroded the society’s cherished values of hard-work, honesty, integrity, brotherliness and fear of God.
The cleric therefore condemned desperation to acquire wealth by all means and urged the youths to seek for knowledge and stop “running after money,” and reminded believers of the day of recompense when every creature would render account of stewardship.
Meanwhile, the founder of the group, Ustaz Lukman Isale Koto explained that the annual lecture with the theme, ‘Calling Muslims to their Responsibilities,’ was the foundation’s way of reminding the youth of the imperative of shunning bad behaviours.
