A Plateau House of Assembly aspirant on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the forthcoming 2015 elections , Mr. Solomon Walbe, has said that he would sponsor a bill on rural water and sanitation if elected .
Walbe, who is to represent the Kanke Constituency, told Newsmen in Jos yesterday that being a rural worker, he has a firsthand experience of the sufferings of rural workers in the area of water and sanitation.
“I am a rural worker, I have worked with Plateau Rural Water and Sanitation Agency, the Millennium Development Goals, MDGs, office in Plateau, I know how much rural people need water and sanitation.
“If elected I will sponsor a bill on rural water/sanitation which would focus on how to address the challenges of rural supply and sanitation particularly the hygiene aspect.
“If passed into law it will be policy template on how to provide adequate water for people in rural communities in the state.
“I personally carried out a survey on the needs of the people of the Kanke Local Government, where I come from and realised that water is one of the major challenges in Plateau because of the difficult terrain,’’ he said.
The house assembly hopeful said that there was the need for a law to give proper direction on how to improve water supply in rural communities.
Walbe, who commended the efforts of the state government and MDGs in the provision of water in rural communities, however said that more was still needed.
