The newly rebranded All Progressive Peoples Alliance, APPA, has tasked the merger party, the All Progressive Congress, APC, to make public to Nigerians its constitution and manifestoes. In an interview with Nigerian Pilot yesterday in Abuja, the national publicity secretary of the party, Dr Orikeze Ajumbe noted that such important documents would enable Nigerians appreciate what the opposition party has in stock for them. Dr Ajumbe, who is the immediate past chairman of All Nigerian Peoples Party, ANPP, in Imo State and recently defected to the All Progressive Peoples Alliance, observed that although the concept of APC was good, but said that keeping the party’s manifestoes and constitution secret is suspicious. “The opposition party, especially the All Progressive Congress, APC, should make their party manifestoes and constitution public so that Nigerians could know the type of agenda it has for them. It is very important that the merger party tell Nigerians the type of reforms that it has”. He explained that one of the reasons why he left the ANPP to join the APPA was because his former party had joined the APC without understanding the idea behind the new party, which according to him has led to the death of the party. “For instance, why are they operating with secrecy? The constitution and the manifesto of the APC is kept secret; no member of the party can tell you that he has sighted the party’s constitution. Again, the position zoned to the ANPP was never discussed by the NEC; rather the positions were shared by the leaders which they gave to their loyalists.” The APPA spokesman dismissed insinuation in some quarters that the former governor of Abia State, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu was behind the rebranded party.
