A youth leader and a House of Assembly aspirant in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Uduak Ekpeyong has decried the spate of endorsements of some aspirants by various organs of the PDP in the state.
Ekpeyong, who is gunning to represent Ikot Ekpene/Obot Akara state constituency in Akwa Ibom told journalists in Uyo that such endorsement remained anti democratic and would not guarantee a level playing field for all the party’s aspirants.
He regretted that such endorsements were not done in the interest of the party pointing out that the criteria for endorsing the aspirants has remained vague and meant to satisfy the self-interest of the promoters and sponsors.
“The endorsement of some aspirants by different organs of the PDP in the state is not good for the party, especially during the elections. There should be a level playing field for all aspirants and that is what the national leadership of the party has been preaching,” he said.
Ekpeyong called on the PDP leadership in the state to emphasise on aspirants’ commitment and contributions to the party and capacity to develop the state and satisfy the needs of all the sections of the polity.
And against speculations and fears that next month’s guber primary in the state would be violent the youth leader expressed belief that the primaries would be hitch free and would be devoid of violent.
