Contrary to the submission two weeks ago that he will not be able to conduct local government elections before the expiration of his tenure, Gabriel Suswam, governor of Benue State has disclosed that the council elections would now hold in April 2015.
Suswam who disclosed this during the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, expanded caucus meeting held in Makurdi, the state capital at the weekend explained that he would like to handover a fully constituted local government councils to his successor in May next year.
The governor said the exercise would enable his successor to quickly settle down for the business of governance, pointing out that caretaker committees would be constituted for the 23 local governments on November 27.
He used the opportunity of the caucus meeting to advise governorship aspirants against violence, stressing that any of them that instigates acrimony would be disqualified.
Suswam also urged the aspirants to play the game according to the rules, saying, so far, he has not been disappointed.
He charged PDP leaders in the state to discharge their duties without fear or favour, stressing that equal opportunities should be given to all aspirants.
