People’s Democratic Party, PDP, ward congress in Ekiti State was held under a peaceful atmosphere in the 177 wards despite that some aspirants of the party were still aggrieved pointing out  that the system used was meant to short-changed them.

Governor Ayodele Fayose and Senator Ayo Arise, a senatorial aspirant in Ekiti North Senatorial district disagreed with the way the ward delegate congress was conducted.

Senator Arise accused Governor Fayose, of not allowing any congress to hold in Ekiti North senatorial District but Fayose, while speaking with newsmen at the Spotless Hotels in Ado Ekiti, said he never doctored the lists of delegates, saying “all the ward chairman and aspirants in each of the local government were allowed to take charge.

“I did not in any way interfere. All I did was to give them direction as a party leader. I called the aspirants and the Chairmen to ensure that the lists of delegates are authentic, which they did in the full glare of everybody”, Fayose said.

While  monitoring  the situation around the state, the congress was held under a peaceful atmosphere, except in some areas where there were pocket of crises over which modality to adopt for the conduct of the congress or how the list of delegates were drawn.

Meanwhile, a large number of anti-riot policemen were seen stationed at strategic location at the party secretariat in Ajilosun Area of Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

The Acting chairman of the PDP in the State, Mr. Taelolu Otitoju, added that the National Working Committee Delegate from Abuja, led by Alhaji Muhammed Abubakar Muktar, were freely given the mandate to conduct the congress without interference in the state.
