Ogun State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has raised the alarm over attempts by some Chieftain of the party to hijack the party primaries through manipulation of delegates.

The Chairman of the party in the state, Engineer Bayo Dayo while speaking with Journalist yesterday during the ward delegates congress said some top members of the party were trying to hijack the process through a back door approach.

The Chairman, who later allayed the fear of the people promised to stand by the rules of the exercise.

According to him, some leaders of the party collated separate forms of delegates aside from the ones legally obtained by the contestants at the party’s secretariat.

This followed after three groups within the party yesterday protested at the party’s secretariat alleging attempt to be marginalised by the party leadership.

The groups include that of the formal Governor of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel, Doyin Okupe, that of the father of former Speaker of House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, Alani Bankole.

The Chairman explained that the groups did not submit their forms before deadline but later brought it in order to cause confusion within the party.

“We agreed with the committee, the committee can collect the forms if they like, I didn’t collect the forms because it was late, we rejected the forms only this morning, it is a lie to say we didn’t collect the forms from them.

“No doubt about that, some people are already planning to hijack the primaries because when you see somebody having 1,000 forms in three batches bringing it to the Secretariat, you will know that something is behind that.

“We will not allow any shortcut, some people have not been to this Secretariat for years and they are here to cause confusion, we will not allow that to happen, everything is under control,” he said.

Nigerian Pilot Sunday however gathered that the 4-man Congress Committee later collected the forms from the aggrieved groups, the development which has continued to anger the leadership of the party.

As at time of filling the report, tension has continued to gather momentum as the National Auditor, Alhaji Adewale Adeyanju entered into a closed door meeting with the committee and executive members while security men were on red alert.
