In readiness for the 2015 general election, the Peoples Democratic Movement, PDM, yesterday inaugurated a new substantive National Executive Committee headed by Dr. Bashir Yusuf Ibrahim, who has acted as protem National Chairman of the party.

Bashir was elected during the national convention of the party which followed immediately the Zonal congresses were concluded.

The Chairman of the PDM, who was sworn in at about 2:46am on Saturday at the party’s national secretariat, said the success of the convention demonstrated the resolve of the people to liberate the country from its political darkness and brighten it up with the philosophy of internal democracy.

Bashir said he has had 35 years of active political exposure from his days in the Unity Party of Nigeria, UPN, till date as the Chairman of the PDM, he has noted that the bane of democratic culture in the country is failure of political parties to entrench a culture of internal democracy.

He said that Nigerian politicians have bastardised politics. Saying politicians have given it a bad name and destroyed the values of the noble profession. He thereby called on the members of the party to stand for fairness and justice.

He stressed that the PDM poses serious threats to other political parties given its timing of emergence thus the attempt to frustrate the party from holding its Zonal congress and national convention.

Chairman of the Inauguration Convention Committee, Chief Uwaoma Ireokwe said the PDM is a challenge to the party in power to be transparent in its dealings with Nigerians on the social contract it has signed with the people.

Ireokwe said since the party represents transparency in the country, it will continue to stand for the progress and development of Nigeria insisting that the PDM has come to stay.
