As part of efforts aimed at checkmating the activities of hoodlums and bandits in Akure, the Ondo State capital, armed security agents have started mounting road blocks in strategic locations across the city.
Nigerian Pilot Saturday correspondent who went round the town yesterday confirmed that security agents comprising policemen and soldiers were at Fiwasaye round about and First Bank, Alagbaka stopping vehicles for routine stop and checks .
The action of the security agencies according to some motorist who spoke on condition of anonymity was not unconnected with nefarious activities of bandits which have been on the rise in recent time as the Yuletide is approaching.
To this end, armed policemen have been drafted to flash points to keep surveillance and be watchful for any suspicious movement of people and vehicles as efforts are on top gear to track down hoodlums.
Also, following the robbery of a commercial bank in Ikere Ekiti and attack on a Police station in the town last week, the Ondo state commissioner of police has directed all the Divisional Police Officers whose station are sharing boundaries with other states to be more proactive and effectively wage war against the men of the underworld in the state.
