The authority of Ibadan Polytechnic yesterday said that, mechatronics and robotic s’ one billion naira (N1bn) centre will be completed and commissioned in the next six months .
The centre which is aimed at teaching students the most current technology in automobiles and allied courses is being funded through special intervention fund from Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).
Mr. Adebisi Adeniran , the institution’s Deputy Rector, made this disclosure yesterday in Ibadan at a press conference marking the commencement of the institution’s 30th Convocation.
The Ibadan Polytechnic Deputy Director who also is the Chairman, Graduation Ceremony Planning Committee declared that, apart from the construction of the mechatronics and robotics centre, the institution has also benefited from TETFund through staff development and training,.
Mr. Adeniran who gave kudos to the President Jonathan’s led administration over the introduction of TETFund said; “through TETFund over 25 percent of the institution’s staff would have benefited in the area of capacity building by the end of the year’’.
The Deputy Rector said the 43 year old institution has been making positive contributions to the development of Nigeria. He also revealed that samples of street lights and censors which will further assist traffic control and ensure civil driving culture have been made by the institution and would be ready for display during an exhibition slated for next Wednesday as part of the graduation ceremony.
According to him; “As from Wednesday 3rd December, 2014, the institution will be presenting an exhibition of the output of our students and staff to the public. The exhibition will include models, fabrications, artworks, some finished goods and other works produced from our various departments, laboratories and workshops; and we are sure that, very marketable products for industrial use will also be there.”
Mr. Adeniran said this year’s graduation ceremony is meant to celebrate the institution’s students who have been found worthy in learning and character and also to appreciate government’s support for the institution.
