Federal Government has pledged to provide more employment and entrepreneurial opportunities in the North West zone in line with the youth empowerment programme of the Transformation Agenda of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
The Minister of State for Finance, Amb. Bashir Yuguda who made this known yesterday stated that the Federal Government has not only continued to create an enabling environment for job creation but has ensured that enterprising young Nigerians are regularly trained to acquire various skill sets, assisted to set up their own companies and subsequently employ other young Nigerians.
Speaking at the People’s Democratic Party rally in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State, the Minister noted that the people of the state had benefitted from the various job creation initiatives of the Jonathan administration especially the Subsidy Re-investment and Empowerment programme (SURE-P) which had created thousands of job opportunities for youths across the country.
A statement from the Special Adviser to the Minister of State, finance, Mr. Ikechukwu Eze said Yuguda who spoke in Hausa language said: “Federal Government’s efforts towards curbing unemployment have generated thousands of direct and indirect jobs in the last four years. Many of our youths in Zamfara,
North West zone and the entire country have benefitted from such programmes as YouWin, Graduate Internship scheme (GIS) as well as many programmes to promote youth participation in the business of agriculture. There is no doubt that the youths of Zamfara state will continue to benefit from these laudable employment and entrepreneurial schemes.”
He also said that a vote for the PDP in the 2015 elections would ensure effective realization of the Government’s many development-oriented economic programmes including the National Integrated Infrastructure Master Plan (NIIMP) which is designed to spur inclusive economic growth and create opportunities for mass employment.
According to him: “a vote for the party’s candidates in next month’s Presidential, governorship and other elections would signify an endorsement for the administration’s well-intentioned economic programmes for sustainable growth and poverty reduction.”
Yuguda who served as the immediate past supervising Minister of National Planning and former Minister of State for Works contributed so much in fine tuning the draft 30-year National Integrated Infrastructure Master Plan and initiated the process of presenting it to the relevant stakeholders, including the National Economic Council before it is finalized for implementation.
Describing NIIMP as one of the Jonathan administration’s key reform programmes, the Minister stated that it was “designed as a co-ordinated approach to physical infrastructure for sustainable development with prioritized projects and programmes to enhance rapid economic growth and efficiency of national institutions.”
