World’s 2nd longest serving monarch gets successor

Idumuje-Unor Community in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State has installed Mr. Charles Anyasi to succeed the late second longest monarch in the world, Obi James Ikechukwu Anyasi.

The late monarch, Agbogidi, Obi Anyasi II who joined his ancestors in April 2013 was installed on October 9th, 1946.

His successor, His Royal Highness, Obi Charles C. Anyansi, III was installed on May 5, 2013 to replace his late father.

The late His Royal Majesty, Obi James Anyansi until his death, was the longest reigning traditional ruler in Nigeria/Africa and the second longest reigning monarch in the world.

Late Anyansi II who was born on March 1924,and ruled the kingdom for over 66 years having been installed on October 9th, 1946.

The Ude-Uri of Idumuje-Unor, Chief Chris Biose while briefing newsmen at Idumuje-Unor community to formally announce the demise of the Anyansi II, said there was no vacuum in the traditional administration of the kingdom, hence the heir, Charles was installed on May 5, 2013.

Chief Chris Biose said the installation ceremony was presided over by the Onihe of Idumuje-Unor, Chief Mbuliche Awolo, elders of Okwunye Royal family in the presence of the Obi-in-Council, the Town-in-Council and witnessed by the traditional rulers of Isele-Uku and Onicha-Ugbo.

He stated that, following the successful installation ceremony, machinery has been put in motion for the formal recognition by government of the new Obi of Idumuje-Unor.

According to Chief Biose, “Obi Anyansi III is a seasoned Journalist, humour columnist, creative artist, analyst and political cartoonist. He pioneered humour, writing for the Concord Group with ‘Concord Laff’, one of the most popular humour columns in Nigeria’s journalistic history”.

Chief Biose noted that the new Obi has already expressed his readiness to tackle the enormous challenges of the kingdom.
