7 arrested for theft of card reader in Zamfara

Less than a week to the conduct of the presidential election, seven persons have been arrested by the police in Zamfara State for alleged theft of a card reader machine belonging to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in Anka Local Government Area. Nigerian Pilot learnt that the card reader machine, which INEC plans to use for voter verification in the forthcoming general elections was discovered missing during the training of ad-hoc staff on how to use the device in Anka Town, the council headquarters. Reliable sources said that when INEC officials noticed the sudden disappearance of the machine, they promptly alerted the security agents in the area. Apart from the trainees at Anka Town, trainers from other centres who came to the area were also detained by the police for further interrogation. The State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Sanusi Amiru, confirmed the arrest of seven people in connection with the missing of card reader. He said that investigation was ongoing, adding that, the command had directed the Criminal Investigation Department, CID office to take over the matter for interrogation.
