Special assistant to the president on Youths and Student Matters, Comrade Jude Imagwe has cautioned the youths against electoral violence even as he assured of adequate security before, during and after the election.
Imagwe particularly urged them to avoid being used as political thugs by politicians who are opposed to peaceful, credible, free and fair elections.
The presidential aide, who spoke during a workshop on ‘Youth Against Violence and Crime in Nigeria Towards 2015 General Elections’ organised by the Duchess Royale Foundation in Abuja, reiterated the government’s commitment to provide adequate security to protect the electorate.
While pointing that the 2015 elections goes beyond political parties and their candidates, he urged youths without voters card to stay away from polling units “as they have no business there.
“I urge you all to shun violence and not to allow yourselves be used by politicians to destroy investment that took your parents years to invest on the country. After March 28th, Nigeria will continue to be United so don’t be used to kill or destroy properties.
“We must think about tomorrow and not allow anyone to use the instrument of religion to use us to caused violence.
“Nigeria is not limited to two parties and we must therefore not give in to the enticement of anyone to make engaged in violence. 2011 is still fresh in our mind, this time we must not our action today to affect our future,” he said.
Speaking in the same vein, the director of Duchess Royale Foundation, Mrs Duchess Obat called on the youth to avoid politicians who may want to use them to foment trouble before, during and after the election.
“Nigeria belong to you, don’t allow yourselves to destroy it, shun religious, ethnicity consideration and don’t sell your conscience,” she urged.
