Yobe State Government says it has put in
place the necessary machinery to provide 85
per cent of the people’s water needs by 2015.
Alhaji Sidi Karasuwa, the Commissioner
for Water Resources, gave the assurance
on Sunday when he inspected borehole
construction and rehabilitation projects
in Nangere and Jakusko local government
areas.
Karasuwa stressed that the state
government had commenced the drilling of
850 boreholes in various rural communities
across the state.
Also, similar inspections had been carried
out on projects in Damaturu, Gujba, Gulani
and Potiskum Local Government Areas.
He, however, noted that the projects’
completion was initially disrupted by the
security challenges which faced the state.
Karasuwa noted that the beneficiary
communities contributed five per cent of
the contract sum for every facility so as
to give them a sense of ownership, adding
that the strategy would also promote
maintenance culture and the facilities’
protection.
