Ebonyi State Governor, Chief Dave Umahi has ordered the reversal with immediate effect the appointments of the 16 Permanent Secretaries appointed by his predecessor at the twilight of his administration.
He gave the order yesterday in a meeting with labour leaders made up of NLC and TUC in the state at Akanu Ibiam International Conference Centre, Abakaliki.
Umahi who made the pronouncement while reacting to the address and petitions of the labour leaders, noted that he inherited empty treasury and the government cannot carry the load of servicing 16 more Permanent Secretaries.
The affected Permanent Secretaries were said to have since gone to court to stop the reversal of their appointments.
Former Governor Martin Elechi had appointed and sworn-in his Chief Press Secretary, Dr Onyekachi Eni, and 15 others as new Permanent Secretaries into the state civil service, one week before he handed over.
Elechi, during the swearing in of the 16 permanent secretaries, noted that the appointments were to fill the vacancies created in the civil service as part of measures to reposition the service.
He noted that it is a political appointment which implies that any permanent secretary should dance to the tune of government in power, also advising them to prepare their minds to undergo series of training to get more exposure.
“Permanent Secretary does not mean you will be permanent in the job. No more for now. You must be up and doing or you will be shown the way out. It implies extra sacrifice both in time and leisure. You are now less invisible because you have been called to service that will task you more,” Elechi had said.
