‘30 -yr-old man flogged to death

A 30-year-old man has been accused of flogging one Godwin Okoko to death in Ijare, Ifedore Local Government area of Ondo State.
The accused, Isoko Daniel on Friday burst into tears at a Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Akure, when he was brought before the court over alleged murder.
Daniel was alleged of beating one Godwin James Okoko at about 4:30pm at Oke Afin Street, Ijare in Akure Magisterial District on April 24, 2015.
The accused was said to have beaten the 30-years-old deceased with belt which caused injury on his head and consequently led to his death.
The prosecutor said the accused committed an offence contrary to Section 319 of the Criminal Code Cap.37 vol1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.
Daniel pleaded not guilty when the charge was read.
The prosecutors, Sergeant Adeoye Adesegun asked for a short adjournment of the case file and forward it to Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, in the Ministry of Justice for legal advice.
Counsel to the accused person, Barrister S.I Balogun who said, since the accused person has pleaded not guilty and the case is a murder case in which bail could not be definitely granted urged the court for speedy processing of the duplication file to the DPP.
The Magistrate, Miss TO Adedoyin in her ruling directed the prosecutor to accelerate the duplication of the file and forwarding to the DPP since the crime has been committed since April 24, 2015.
Meanwhile, she ordered the remand of the accused person at Olokuta Prison and adjourned the matter till June 30, 2015.
