APGA elects new leaders, names Maku National Secretary

Umeh hands over amidst tension
All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, yesterday elected its national officers for the next four years at its National Convention at Women Development Centre, Awka.
Dr Victor Ikechukwu Oye was elected its National Chairman while former Information Minister, Mr. Labaran Maku, emerged as the new National Secretary.
The election came despite a purported Jos, Plateau State High Court injunction restraining APGA from conducting the convention, which the officials allegedly said the party was never served.
Chief Oye is from Amawbia , Awka South local government area of Anambra state, He is the CEO/MD Blaze Advertising Agency Lagos and is suspected to be the owner of Blaze Fm Obosi. He is former journalist and aide of former governor Orji Uzor Kalu where he worked as a speechwriter.
He attended University of Lagos where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication before earning his Masters Degree in Mass Communication in the United Kingdom.
On his part, the National Secretary, Mr. Maku is a former Journalist with Champion Newspapers and from Wakama District in Nasarawa Eggon Local Govt. Area of Nasarawa State and a former Information minister of state and later minister for information under President Goodluck Jonathan. He contested governorship election in Nasarawa under APGA but lost.
Other officers elected with them in a voice vote are National Publicity Secretary, Dr Ifeatu Okoye; National Youth Leader, Chuks Nwoga; National Women Leader, Obiagu Amaka Ezinne, among others as supervised by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC and security officials.
Anambra state Commissioner nominee and speaker of Anambra State House of assembly, Right Hon Chinwe Nwaebili moved a motion for the adoption of the Chief Oye led executive as a replacement of the out gone, with an uproar that signified the acceptance of the new national chairman.
Speaking earlier, Chief Umeh went down memory lane narrating how the party was formed, and all the travails it had undergone in the past, while thanking the members of the party who have remained steadfast, despite attempts by both Imo State, Governor Rochas Okorocha and immediate past Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, to rock the boat after using it to attain success.
Meanwhile, the police had used tear gas canisters to disperse some delegates who wanted to cause trouble earlier before the convention and the arrival of the BOT Chairman , Governor Willie Obiano and Chief Victor Umeh among other national officers of the party.
