Rivers APC opposes RSIEC chairman’s summon by Assembly

Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, Dr. Davies Ikanya has queried the rationale behind the invitation given to the chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral
Commission, RSIEC, Professor Augustine Ahiuzo to appear before the Rivers State House of Assembly, RSHA today on matters based on the conduct of May 23 local government election in the state.
It would be recalled that last week, RSHA had issued a summon
through its Clerk to the chairman of RSIEC and its commissioners to appear before it, to explain the conduct of May 23 local government election in the state. Many political parties in the state had expressed dissatisfaction about fixing the local government election for May 23, leading to non-participation of majority of the political parties, including the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State in the election.
But in condemning the invitation of RSIEC by the state House of
Assembly, the APC chieftain stated that it was wrong to invite officials of RSIEC based on issues which he noted are before the court of law.
The APC chairman advised the lawmakers to rather focus on their responsibility of making laws for the benefits of the people of the state than deliberate on issues that are pending before the court.
